I bought these after having a nasty accident where my foot caught between my pedal and a large root at speed. Fortunately, I didn't break anything, but the bruising and recovery of my toes and metatarsals was long. The previous 510's were more comfortable and had better feel on the pedals, but for downhill, I feel so much better riding these, especially after a few rides when the soles were broken in a bit. They do start off very stiff, but I haven't had any pedal slips in several full bike park days. I ride these with OneUp platforms on a long travel DH bike. The older version were much better and has more protection.and is a lot more rugged.five ten has always been my go to mtb shoes but I may try some other brands Adidas didn’t do the five ten brand any favors they seem more like a knock off of the original that’s just not as good .After stubbing my toe (still in pain 8 days later) riding at my local bike park… I decided to grab a pair of shoes more suited for downhill riding. I’ve spent the past two years with a pair of Fiveten Freeriders and while they’re great shoes for recreational mountain biking, they lack any level of real protection. That’s where these Fiveten Impact Pro’s come in. They’re solid but not beefy and provide a much much higher degree of protection in the toe and ankle area. Oh, and they’re very very very grippy, more so than the regular fiveten freeriders. (But maybe my old shoes were just worn out) I’m not sure you’ll find much better than this if you’re looking for a flat pedal shoe that provides excellent grip with a high emphasis on protection. These might be a bit much to wear on regular trails.. as they are a bit heavier and will trap more heat inside. For trail riding or recreational riding, the regular fiveten freeriders will be on my feet. When it comes to riding DH trails though, it’s a no brainer.I have 2 other pairs on 5-10’s free riders and trailcross mids. The trailcross are my bike packing and commuting shoe of choice. I got size 11 1/2 as my size 11 free riders are a bit short. I really like the trailcross but wanted a more substantial shoe for colder condition. I ordered the 11 1/2 based on my experience with my other 5-10 shoes but would need a 12 and I never wear a 12.These shoes are really nicely made and the materials seem excellent. Sturdier than the trailcross and less likely to get waterlogged than the free riders. But even though the insides are small, the outsides are ginormous. The soles are so wide! As far as off the bike they are so big and stiff they almost feel like ski boots. So would be great for colder weather bikepacking or bike commuting.I liked everything about theses shoes. Fit true to size, light and comfortable. I got my first ride in today with my new shoes. I am very happy with them so far. I cannot believe how they stick to the flat fooker pedals I use. I think the screws actually stick between the gaps in the tread of the shoe. I use to ride wearing Keens and the pedals shredded the bottom of them. I also slipped off the pedals constantly. I rode about 32 miles today and my feet felt great. The only down side is the price. I am a believer of Buy Once, Cry Once. So if your undecided like I was, just buy them and you will soon believe what I am talking about. Enjoy the trails, Rob.Shoes are great, 5-star. It is very stiff, so if you have wider feet, you might want to get 1/2 size bigger. Because it is stiff, the feelings of the pedals under them are gone. I spent a few hours to get use to them. They are tough and I expect they last a long time. Zero star for the seller. Average is 2.5 stars. Pictures are the "new" shoes I received. If they were advertised as "used" shoes, I would accept them. Recommend seller inspect their product before sending out. Thanks to Amazon for their smooth return process. I have to buy a pair of "new" ones from 5/10 directly. Was looking for a pair of quality MTB shoes and with the winter on the way the mid height was perfect. Also was looking for protection around my ankles which this shoe delivers. I have only used these 3 times so far so I can’t speak for long term use. The only knock I have is the laces are not great, but if they bother me enough….I’ll swap them out , no big deal.Sizing has changed since becoming adidas … now need a half size smaller!
