I'm hoping this review will be of some help to someone out there who's looking for a good quality helmet that fits right. Sorry, it's kind of a long read. I did quite a bit of research and mostly looked at the S1 Lifer, the TSG Evolution, and the Triple 8 Gotham helmets. I'm a middle-aged guy and just getting back into roller skating so my skills are pretty rusty and I wanted a good quality helmet to practice outside. The MIPS technology was also something that impressed me as a good feature to have.I measured my head with one of those flexible tailoring measuring tapes. My head measured exactly 23 in or 58.5 cm.After reading the information from the Triple 8 product descriptions, they recommended that you choose larger size if your measurement fell in between two sizes, which mine did. I ordered the L/XL helmet and when it came in and I tried it on I had to adjust the dial system in the back of the helmet to get it to fit snug front to back, but the sides felt kind of loose. I could slide three fingers in between my temples and one the side of the helmet. I felt if the dial system adjustment in the back ever broke, the helmet would be useless because it was way too large. And then looking in the mirror I felt like Dark Helmet from the movie Spaceballs, it really looked ridiculously large as my photos will show.So I returned the L/XL and ordered a Sm/M even though my head was a little bit larger than what it recommended. It did fit very snug but it seemed to seat down properly as the front was just a little bit above my eyebrows as it should be. Also, my ears were in the right position in the helmet openings on the side. I did end up removing the small piece of felt padding in the front of the helmet and now the helmet fits absolutely perfect.I ended up discounting the S1 Lifer helmets because I felt that based on my head measurements, I was going to need the S1 Mega Lifer and it would have a bunch of padding holding my head in there and I was afraid that the padding would eventually compress over time and compromise the snugness of fit. And I also couldn't find the helmet size that I wanted in prime with returns and I wanted to be able to return the helmet if it didn't fit right. So I didn't end up ordering one if those to try out. Lastly, it lacked The MIPS technology.I also tried the TSG Evolution helmet because of it's contoured design. Which it fit pretty good, but upon closer inspection the foam protective layer was noticeably thinner than that of the Triple 8 helmets, especially in the front. It was also lacking in MIPS protection. My wife said the helmet actually sat higher on my head than the Triple 8 Sm/M. She thought the Triple 8 Sm/M for better.I've been using the Triple 8 Sm/M helmet for about 3 weeks. It feels very comfortable and I forget I'm wearing it. I do get sweaty when I skate and it hasn't seemed that bad to me as I've seen other reviews where people feel the airflow isn't that great. The chin strap and buckle seem to be good quality and adjust well to keep the helmet secure. The first two pictures I uploaded are obviously my head measurements. The third picture is the difference between the foam padding on the Triple 8 Sm/M on the left, and the TSG Evolution on the right. The fourth picture is the side and front shots of me wearing the helmets with each picture labeled. The final picture is of the chin strap. So far I'm very pleased with the Triple 8 helmet and the look. And like someone else said, if you don't like the look of the helmet, you're not going to wear it and it won't do you any good if you don't wear it. Hopefully, I don't need to test it's durability. But if I do I will update this review. Good luck and safe skating!
